[Kyoto] Bishamon-do Temple, the filming location for "Let's Go to Kyoto"

#AutumnFoliageSeason

Bishamon-do, a Tendai sect temple nestled quietly in the depths of Kyoto's Yamashina district.

It gained instant fame when it was featured as a famous autumn foliage spot in the 2000 JR Central commercial, "Let's Go to Kyoto."

A monzeki temple is a temple whose chief priest was a nobleman with ties to the imperial family.

It is believed to have been founded around the 8th century and is known for its prestigious status.

Bishamon-do is famous not only for the spectacular autumn foliage in its grounds and gardens, but also for the carpet of fallen leaves that covers the approach to the Chokushimon Gate.

★Autumn Foliage Season: Late November to Early December We visited in early December, when the autumn leaves were at their peak, but there wasn't much falling, so we didn't see a carpet of autumn foliage.

Parking is available.

If you want to take pictures of the spectacular scenery without people around, you'll need to arrive very early in the morning.
