The area around Kiyomizu-dera ⛩️ is home to a collection of ancient, beautiful, and unique temples. This trip centered around Kiyomizu-dera, and walking around without a map provided a different experience.

Shishakuin Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple founded in 1601. The temple is famous for its beautiful gardens designed in Chinese style, inspired by Mount Lushan and the Yangtze River.

Otani Honbyo is a mausoleum dedicated to Shinran Shonin, the founder of the Jodo sect of Buddhism. It contains numerous tombs.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple was founded in 778 and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
The temple's name means "pure water," referring to the waters of Otowa Waterfall, which flows down the hillsides of the temple grounds.
