Golden Brilliance: Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto

Kinkaku-ji (officially known as Rokuon-ji) is one of Kyoto's most iconic landmarks, named after its core structure, the Shariden Hall (commonly called the "Golden Pavilion"), whose exterior is completely covered in gold leaf. This magnificent three-story pavilion stands beside the serene Kyoko-chi Pond, where its glittering reflection merges with the surrounding Japanese garden and lush forests to create a dreamlike vision of a Buddhist paradise.
Originally built as the villa "Kitayama-dono" for the third Ashikaga shogun, Yoshimitsu, it was later converted into a Zen temple according to his will. As a representative masterpiece of Kitayama culture, it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
