A golden Temple of dreams

Temple of the golden pavilion, Rokuon-ji Kyoto

One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen, this golden temple is a must see if you’re in the area. It’s a very popular site with tourists and one of the 100 most religious buildings in the world.

Set in stunning gardens the temple is in the middle of a lake, set with small islands and bonsai trees. There is a $3 entrance free but it’s worth it, you follow a guided path around the lake and through some of the smaller temple attractions.

There are toilets and gift shops along the way and plenty of places for photos.

It’s easy to get to on coach tours, by taxi or bus - and as with all Kyoto sites try and get there as early as possible to avoid the crazy crowds!
