Walking around Leeds canals

Leeds boasts a significant network of water canals, most notably the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Completed in 1816, this 127-mile waterway was a vital artery for the Industrial Revolution, facilitating the transport of coal, textiles, and other goods between the city and the port of Liverpool.
Its "broad locks" allowed larger cargo boats, contributing to its sustained commercial success even with the rise of railways.
Today, these historic canals, along with the Aire & Calder Navigation, are cherished for leisure, offering picturesque routes for walking, cycling, and boating amidst revitalised waterside developments.
