The ancient city has a history of more than 2000 years. Since the Qin and Han dynasties, it has always been the political, economic, and cultural center of the Hai, Gan, Shu, and Guan regions, and is known as the 'Great Town of Huai Mouth', 'Famous County of the East Sea', and 'The First City from the East of Huaihai'.
Zhang Lei's poem says: 'Beyond the city, the vast sea flows day and night, and the southern mountains stand directly opposite the city head. The creek rain is enough for the rice to ripen early, and the sea trees sway high with leaves that fall easily in autumn.'
