I originally just casually booked "Xinghe Shanyu Chill," but ended up changing my entire itinerary—who could resist such a relaxing gem of a guesthouse hidden amidst the vibrant life of the Dong Village?

Pushing open the wooden door, I was instantly amazed: the wooden structure retains the rustic charm of the Dong Village, while the white walls and rattan furniture create a refreshing and chill vibe. We stayed in a mountain-view room with an incredible view—pulling back the curtains revealed layers upon layers of Dong Village rooftops. In the evening, sitting on the balcony with a drink, watching the sunset paint the distant mountains gold and red, and breathing in the scent of rice flowers in the breeze—this is what a vacation should feel like.

The owner truly understands the art of living. Every morning, she prepares the local specialty oil tea, paired with freshly grilled glutinous rice cakes—so delicious you'll want to lick the plate clean! In the afternoons, she brews tea from ancient local trees for us and shares fascinating stories about the Dong Village, which felt even more engaging than visiting tourist spots.

The location is also perfect—inside the village but not noisy. It's just a 5-minute walk to the main street, and at night, you can hear the distant songs from the drum tower, quiet yet full of life. The room's details also won me over: the bedding is super soft, even the shower gel has a light botanical fragrance. After a bath, lying on the bay window and stargazing is truly healing.
