Changsha Millennium Ancient Temple - Liuyang Baogai Temple

Changsha Millennium Ancient Temple - Liuyang Baogai Temple

Baogai Temple is one of the eight famous temples in Xiangchu, established during the Tang Dynasty. Nestled within the mountains, it is a true hidden gem of an ancient temple! It is said to be very efficacious. The temple's pillars are made from whole, uncarved ancient trees, and the gate tower is constructed using mortise and tenon joints, exuding an ancient and solid style! This architectural style is not common. Inside the Mahavira Hall, there is a 500-ton white marble Buddha that is truly awe-inspiring to see in person! The courtyard has a large lawn that is very photogenic, and the surrounding trees are lush and verdant. The monks in the temple grow various flowers and plants, creating a tranquil environment. Most importantly, there is no commercial atmosphere. Stepping into the ancient temple, one is immediately enveloped by a profound and simple feeling, and the heart naturally calms down. It is recommended to visit during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons, from March to October. The grass is green, the flowers are fragrant, the stream babbles, and the place is full of natural charm.

'The sage seeks the heart, not the Buddha; the fool seeks the Buddha, not the heart.' This place belongs to Liuyang, about a 1.5h drive from Changsha. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the temple from the highway exit. The temple enshrines a white marble Buddha, and there are masters and abbots. If you're lucky, you might hear them chanting. Entering the temple and smelling the incense, it feels like the whole person is being purified! Incense is available for free and can be taken with a sincere heart for blessings.
