The name of Xiaolangdi Scenic Area comes from its location—Xiaolangdi Village in Matun Township (now renamed Xiaolangdi Town), Mengjin District, Luoyang City. It spans both banks of the Yellow River, with a total area of 1,262 square kilometers, including a water area of 296 square kilometers. Xiaolangdi Dam, the core of the entire scenic area, is 175 kilometers long. It is a loam inclined core wall rockfill dam, with a maximum dam height of 154 meters and a dam crest length of 1,667 meters. It is a large comprehensive water conservancy project on the main stream of the Yellow River, integrating sediment reduction, flood control, ice prevention, water supply and irrigation, and power generation.
