It was constructed in 1666 during the reign of King Narai the Great to serve as a council chamber for royal advisors and a venue for official state affairs. According to French records from that era, this throne hall was the administrative center of the kingdom and played a crucial role in the political and diplomatic activities of Ayutthaya.

The Chanthara Phisan Throne Hall features traditional Thai architecture, resembling a chapel or temple. Its front includes a protruding porch where the king would appear to meet officials gathered in the courtyard. After the palace was abandoned, the structure fell into ruin, leaving only the walls. It was later restored during the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV).

Today, the interior of the Chanthara Phisan Throne Hall showcases exhibits celebrating King Narai the Great, including historical depictions such as French envoys, Thai envoys, and royal processions both by land and water.
