Wat Wisunrat, Wat Wisut

#Laos attractions Wat Visoun or Wat Visunrat is the oldest temple in Luang Prabang. It was built in 2058 during the reign of King Wichulrat of the Lan Xang Kingdom. In 2343, the Black Flag bandits under the command of the Ho attacked and part of the temple was destroyed. In 2441, it was renovated and Phra Bang was invited to be enshrined in this temple. The uniqueness of this temple can be seen from the beautifully carved wooden door and the Khmer architecture that was inspired by Wat Phu Temple in Champasak Province in southern Laos. Inside the temple, there are ancient Buddha images and various inscriptions. King Wichulrat's wife led the construction of a pagoda that is different from other pagodas because it is round and cut in half, looking like a watermelon, so it is called Phra That Mak Mo (That Pathum). Later, in 2485, this temple became a museum to store many Buddha images and antiques. #wattosann
