Wuma Street, a famous commercial street in China, formerly known as Wumafang, is one of the ancient streets in Wenzhou's old city. It stretches from Jiefang Street to Gongyuan Road in the east and ends at the intersection of Chan Street and Fuqian Street in the west. It is 400 meters long and 12 meters wide, with fourteen alleys flanking it. Legend has it that it originated in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and continued unchanged through the Tang and Song dynasties. It was renamed Wuma Street in the Qing Dynasty, then Zhongshan Road in 1934, before reverting to Wuma Street after 1949. The street was paved with asphalt in 1974 and designated Wenzhou's iconic shopping pedestrian street in April 1984.
