Guanlin Temple 🪷

We visited Guanlin Temple on a peaceful afternoon, and the experience was both culturally rich and surprisingly personal 🏯🌳 As we entered the temple grounds, the wide courtyards and old cypress trees immediately set a contemplative mood. We walked slowly through the complex, taking in the details of the colorful eaves, stone carvings, and calligraphy that lined the halls. Knowing that this is the burial site of Guan Yu’s head gave everything a deeper resonance there was a quiet sense of respect in the way the site is maintained and visited.

What stood out to us most was how balanced the whole place felt part shrine, part museum, part peaceful retreat 🙏🍃 We saw a few people offering incense or simply sitting quietly under the trees, and it reminded us how history can still feel alive when the environment is this welcoming. We didn’t feel rushed, and there were plenty of shady spots to pause and reflect. If you’re in Luoyang and want to connect with a powerful figure from Chinese history in a serene and respectful setting, we’d absolutely recommend spending time at Guanlin.
