Shentai Lijing (South Gate), Luoyang 🏯 is one of the grand entrances to the ancient heart of the city — a towering fortress-style gate that once protected Luoyang, one of China’s oldest capitals. Standing beneath its massive wooden beams and stone walls, you can almost hear the echoes of soldiers, merchants, and emperors who passed through centuries ago.
Today, it serves as a scenic gateway into the Luoyi Ancient City area. By day, it’s impressive. By night, it’s fully illuminated with red lanterns and golden floodlights 🔥, creating a majestic entrance into street performances, tea houses, and old-style markets nearby. Climbing the wall offers panoramic views of the old town below — perfect for photos 📸.
💰 How Much Does It Cost
Gate exterior & walking around: Free ✅
Climbing the gate or accessing the wall: Around 20–30 RMB (€2–4).
Snacks & tea shops nearby 🍵: 15–30 RMB (€2–4).
Total: €5–8 for a relaxed visit.
Shentai Lijing isn’t just a gate — it’s the threshold between modern Luoyang and its ancient soul.
