Introducing Nanjing National Defense Park

Nanjing National Defense Park, once a key military site, has become a renowned venue for national defense and patriotic education in Nanjing. Construction began in August 1992 and covers 300 mu (approximately 1,000 acres). The site of the park dates back to the Jinling Fortress, built by King Wei of Chu in 333 BC. The five gilded characters on the gatehouse are the park's name, specially inscribed by General Secretary Jiang Zemin before its construction.

It comprises the National Defense Education Hall, the Arms and Services Hall, the Heroes and Models Hall, the National Defense Science and Technology Hall, the Heavy Weapons Field, the Simulation Drill Field, and the Military Sports and Entertainment Park. The "National Defense Education Hall" was inscribed by Liu Huaqing, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and the "Arms and Services Hall" by Chi Haotian, Minister of National Defense. Leaders such as Zhang Aiping, Jiang Weiqing, Du Ping, and Xiang Shouzhi also contributed inscriptions to the National Defense Park.

The Monument to the Model City for Supporting the Support of the Army and the People was specially commissioned using Deng Xiaoping's handwriting after Nanjing was awarded the title of "Model City for Supporting the Support of the Army and the People" in 1993, 1994, and 1997. The stone sculpture's two clasped hands symbolize the military and civilians working hand in hand, while the mouth-like form symbolizes the close ties between the military and civilians.

Azalea Garden

The Azalea Garden, with its hillsides covered with rhododendrons, constitutes the largest azalea garden in Nanjing. Every spring and summer, the National Defense Park is filled with fiery red azaleas.

Autumn Dusk in the Mountain
