Henan Luoyang-Longmen Grottoes Tour

The second stop of the previous seven-day tour in Xi'an was Luoyang.

When you come to Luoyang, you have to visit the famous Longmen Grottoes. It is located on the cliffs of Longmen Mountain and Xiangshan Mountain on both sides of Yishui River in the southern suburbs of Luoyang City. It is one of the three famous stone carving art treasures in China. It is quite large in scale, with exquisitely carved statues and rich content and themes. It was mainly excavated during the more than 400 years from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty. There are still more than 2,100 niches, more than 100,000 statues and more than 3,600 inscriptions on steles. Although damaged by war and the Cultural Revolution, most of the statues are still clearly visible after restoration.

The scenery along the river is also very beautiful. Opposite the grotto is Bai Juyi's tomb. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to visit it this time. I will go next time.
