First time hiking Wugong Mountain! Legs were useless for 5 days but I still want to go again!

Who understands! Finally checked in at the recently popular Wugong Mountain. I originally planned to use it as a "beginner's mountain climbing practice," but ended up facing a tough challenge — honestly, it was worth it to the point that I want to book a second trip immediately!

Early July at Wugong Mountain is so healing! The mountains covered in green look like a carpet, a hundred times more beautiful to the naked eye than in photos! But a heads-up: it’s really tougher than I imagined — I planned to hike up and take the cable car down to save my legs, but the cable car line for going down was 3 hours long! Gritting my teeth, I hiked the whole way down, and my legs hurt for 5 days. But once I recovered, my first thought was: next time I want to try hiking it in reverse 😂

🚶‍♀️ Beginner-friendly route (with actual timing)

The whole route is mostly stairs. Beginners shouldn’t rush to hike it straight or in reverse; the scenic route is already great! I took 2 days, here’s the route and time for your reference:

- Day 1 (Red Line): Shigu Temple → Jinxin Bridge → Monkey Valley → Hero Slope → Diaomazhuang → Golden Summit
Special praise for the section from Diaomazhuang to Golden Summit! The scenery is legendary. When you’re exhausted and want to give up, just look up and you’ll instantly get your energy back!

- Day 2 (Blue Line): Golden Summit → Qiusi Altar → Alpine Meadow → Meadow Boat → Lovers’ Flower Corridor → Shigu Temple
The second day is all walking through meadows. The wind is strong but the views are amazing, every photo looks like wallpaper~

About 6 kilometers each way, each segment took over 4 hours. Beginners can plan their time according to this pace!

🚌 Transportation tips to avoid pitfalls

I’ve figured out the easiest way to get to Wugong Mountain for you:

1. Take the high-speed train to Pingxiang North Station. Right outside the station, you can buy a minibus ticket to Wugong Mountain for 27 yuan per person. Buses run frequently and depart quickly, no waiting!
2. After the minibus arrives at the visitor center, transfer to a free shuttle bus that goes directly to the foot of the mountain. The whole trip is seamless and very convenient for lazy travelers~
3. For the return trip, just go back the same way. No need to book tickets in advance, buy as you go!

🏕️ Food, lodging tips & essentials (key points!)

I booked a tent near Baihe Peak in advance, just 10 minutes from the Golden Summit. These details are super important from my experience:

- Choosing a tent: Arrive early! First come, first served for the front row tents facing the sunrise direction with completely unobstructed views! The tent I stayed in was on the edge and very quiet, no special forces squad noise at night. I got enough sleep before getting up to watch the sunrise~
- Don’t carry too much food: I foolishly carried 15 pounds in my bag, half of it food, and couldn’t finish it! There are supply points on the mountain. Prices are higher, but it’s better than hurting your shoulders. Carry less and buy on the mountain for a lighter load!
- Must-haves for lodging: disposable bedding set, earplugs, and flashlight! I went during the tent festival and tents with pillows were all taken, luckily I brought my own pillow; at night, the flashlight was a lifesaver for going to the bathroom and hanging things inside the tent~

❗ Hard-earned advice (must-read for beginners)

1. Don’t underestimate warmth: The mountain is very humid and windy! I wore a light down jacket plus thermal pants and covered myself with a coat to sleep without feeling cold. Wearing just a shell jacket is definitely not enough! My hair was still wet after blowing all night, so waterproof outerwear is a must~
2. Ordinary tents can be a savior: The tent ground halfway up the mountain is uneven. I put two quilts under me and instantly felt comfortable! Don’t worry about not having an electric blanket; if you wrap up well, you’ll sleep soundly~
3. Check the weather = check the views: Don’t just look for rain! Check cloud height and stargazing conditions in advance. I checked the forecast beforehand and precisely caught the sunrise and sea of clouds, luck maxed out!

Finally, to answer the question you all asked a lot: Is Wugong Mountain worth visiting?
Absolutely worth it! The endless green washes away all work fatigue. The only small regret is the long cable car lines and average washing facilities, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to go again and again! Next time I definitely want to try hiking it in reverse to unlock more perspectives~
