Snowlight and Sweetness: Falling for Lyon in Winter

Step into the enchanting heart of Lyon with a stroll through its UNESCO-listed Vieux Lyon—a maze of Renaissance facades, hidden passageways, and irresistible treats! 🏰🍦 Lose yourself wandering the famed traboules of Rue Saint-Jean, mysterious stone corridors that unlock secret courtyards and photogenic stairways. Every twist and turn tells a story!
Start your adventure early morning; Vieux Lyon never really “closes” so it’s perfect for atmospheric dawn photos when streets are less crowded. Walk Rue Saint-Jean to hunt for the best-open traboules—look for plaques marking their entrances, and step inside for unique angles (arched windows, spiral stairs, medieval doorways). Don’t rush—each network reveals Lyon’s silk-merchant past!
Next, head toward Lyon Cathedral at Place Saint-Jean (open daily except Mondays—check hours above!). Its monumental facade is worthy of a photo, but also find the stunning astronomical clock and beautifully illuminated stained glass inside. For the Insta-crowd: capture the cathedral from the square at golden hour for that moody, historic backdrop.
No Lyon visit is complete without a treat at Terre Adelice—scope out their seasonal ice creams and sample a bold flavor (my tip: try their lavender or chestnut!) Sit outside for people-watching and snap a sun-dappled shot of your colorful cone against the cobbled street.
Precautions: Many traboules can be dimly lit or have uneven steps—watch your footing and respect residential signs. Lyon Cathedral can be busy on weekends; early entry is best for quiet moments and photos.
