Recently, I took a delightful trip to Macau and made sure to visit the stunning Lingnan-style courtyard residence, the Cheng Family Mansion. Here’s a detailed cross-border transportation guide for traveling from Hong Kong to Macau.
By Ferry
- Route 1: Hong Kong Sheung Wan Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal to Macau Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal or Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal. This is the primary waterway between the two locations, with over 30 daily departures covering all time slots from daytime to late night. Regular ferries travel at a speed of approximately 35 knots, taking about 1 hour, while high-speed ferries like the "TurboJET" series can reduce the travel time to 45 minutes. Single-trip ticket prices for economy class range from HKD 170 to HKD 230.
- Route 2: Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal to Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal. The "Airport SkyPier to Taipa" route from Tuen Mun Terminal offers a convenient air-sea connection for travelers with large luggage. You can check the ferry schedules and ticket prices with the respective ferry companies. Before boarding, you need to complete two inspections: the first at the terminal’s departure hall for Hong Kong exit procedures, and the second at the arrival hall of the Macau ferry terminal for Macau entry procedures. The entire customs clearance process takes about 20 minutes, so it’s recommended to allocate 1 hour for check-in and security checks.
