What a surprise! I did not have this monastery in my original plan while visiting Mandalay! I hired a private driver, and he told me that I had to see it. The monastery is located in central Mandalay, close to the Buddha manufacturing stores and the Jade market. It is on a congested street. However, it was easy to park. There is no entrance fee. Once you pass the entrance, you will be amazed by the monastery's delicate details. The monastery was commissioned by two wealthy jade, Chinese jade merchants in 1890. It is made of teak. It is a Konbaung-style monastery (similar to Shwenandaw). The main tower is beautiful. It has seven tiers of roof. The construction has impressive carvings, the carvings are very well-preserved, and the construction is splendid! The place is very calm, and the surrounding gardens are nice, and the floors are very clean. There is no entrance fee. Once you leave, you can wash your feet with water coming from a small, old cistern located close to the entrance. The mechanism of water extraction is original and really impressive. It was a beautiful day in Mandalay. The place is magical.
There were very few tourists, including a couple of independent tourists and a group. The group only stayed for a few minutes. There were no locals.
