📜 Founded in 1571 by the Spanish conquistador López de Legazpi, it was originally a fortress protecting the colonial capital from pirates and invasions.
Its walls have seen:
Spanish colonialism – rulers lived here, and universities and churches were built.
World War II – the destruction of 1945 left only ruins, but preserved Fort Santiago and the Church of San Agustin.
Revival – since the 1950s, restoration has begun, turning the area into an open-air museum.
🗼 Main attractions:
1️⃣ Fort Santiago 🏰
Stone citadel, built in 1590.
2️⃣ Church of San Agustin ⛪️
The only surviving of the seven Spanish churches in Intramuros. UNESCO World Heritage Site.
3️⃣ Casa Manila 🏡
A replica of a colonial mansion with furniture and household items from the 16th–19th centuries.
