The Huangma Uprising broke out in 1927. On December 23, 1931, the Fourth Red Army, with the cooperation of the Huangan army and civilians, captured Huangan County. To commemorate the great victory of the Huangan Campaign and commend the revolutionary spirit of the Huangan people, the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Central Bureau announced that Huangan County would be renamed Hong'an County.
