🇵🇭Manila
While the temperature is similar to the Middle East, the high humidity makes it feel much hotter 🌞💦. With fewer tourist attractions, I spent my time relaxing at spas and enjoying local food.
What surprised me the most was the presence of security guards everywhere! Shopping malls, banks, convenience stores—you name it, there were guards stationed at every corner. It was a unique glimpse into the Philippines' approach to public safety.
Walking around Manila & Impressions 🌆
✅ The heat and humidity combo is intense ☀️💦
Although the temperature is comparable to the Middle East, the high humidity makes it feel even hotter. Even in the shade, it’s muggy, and just a short walk leaves you drenched in sweat. Air-conditioned indoor spaces felt like heaven (haha).
✅ Security guards everywhere, showcasing the Philippines' safety measures 👮♂️
Guards were stationed at shopping malls, restaurants, and even convenience stores. Bag checks and metal detector scans at entrances were the norm. Initially surprising, but eventually, it gave a sense of security.
✅ Fewer tourist attractions, but a focus on local experiences 🌿
While there are some historical spots, Manila doesn’t have as many tourist attractions as other Southeast Asian cities. Instead, enjoying spas and exploring local food turned out to be the best way to spend time here!
Places & Experiences in Manila 🏛️
📍 Intramuros 🏰
A walled city from the Spanish colonial era and the oldest district in Manila. The colonial architecture offers a glimpse into the Philippines' history. Among Manila’s limited attractions, this was a highlight!
📍 Manila Cathedral ⛪
A historic Catholic cathedral with stunning stained glass interiors. It has been rebuilt multiple times after earthquakes and wars, adding to its rich history.
📍 Rizal Park 🌳
A memorial park dedicated to the Filipino independence hero, José Rizal. Locals were picnicking and jogging, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
📍 Relaxing with massages & spas 🧖♂️
Spas in the Philippines are affordable and high-quality! I indulged in a full-body oil massage at a local massage parlor, feeling utterly rejuvenated.
📍 Shopping mall hopping 🛍️
"SM Mall of Asia (MOA)" is massive—you can’t cover it all in one day. "Greenbelt Mall" exudes luxury and is packed with international brand stores.
Filipino Cuisine I Tried in Manila 🍽️
🍖 Lechon
A Filipino specialty—roast pig! The crispy skin and juicy meat were absolutely delicious.
🍛 Adobo
A classic Filipino dish of chicken or pork simmered in vinegar and soy sauce. It tasted similar to Japanese simmered dishes and paired perfectly with rice!
🍜 Pancit Canton
The Filipino version of stir-fried noodles. Influenced by Chinese cuisine, it was a light and satisfying lunch option.
🥥 Halo-Halo
A popular Filipino dessert! Shaved ice topped with purple yam ice cream, jelly, nata de coco, tapioca, and more—a colorful treat that was perfect for cooling down in the heat.
🍺 San Miguel Beer 🍻
The most famous beer in the Philippines, with a crisp and refreshing taste. A cold one in the hot Manila weather was unbeatable!
Impressions & Summary of Manila
✅ The humidity makes it feel extremely hot! Stay hydrated.
✅ The abundance of security guards was surprising at first but eventually reassuring.
✅ While there are fewer tourist attractions, it’s a great place to enjoy spas and local food.
✅ Filipino cuisine has many flavors that suit Japanese tastes and was delicious!
Manila left me with the impression of being a city to enjoy local experiences rather than sightseeing. Despite the heat and humidity, I had a relaxing stay, indulging in spas and savoring delicious food.
