Located in the heart of Manila's Rizal Park, the Philippine National Museum of Anthropology is a museum rich in cultural and historical significance. Contrary to some incorrect information online, it is indeed open on Mondays. My friends and I visited on a Monday, and all we needed to do was present our passport or ID for registration to gain free entry, which was very convenient.
Once inside, note that eating, drinking, and carrying water bottles are prohibited, and large backpacks are not allowed. However, small personal bags are permitted. The museum space is spacious, bright, and well-organized, with comfortable air conditioning.
The exhibits are diverse, including a model of the Spanish galleon San Diego, medical tools of the indigenous peoples of the Philippines, ancient Philippine script on copper plates, statues and religious artifacts, traditional clothing, and handicrafts. There are even sections dedicated to rice culture, biodiversity, and climate change. While the number of exhibits is not overwhelming, each piece is rich in meaning and detail, offering a profound insight into the depth and stories of the Philippines' diverse culture.
This museum is perfect for a leisurely 1-2 hour visit, allowing you to immerse yourself in the evolution from ancient legends to the lives of various ethnic groups. The overall experience is comfortable and high-quality, making it an excellent place to learn about Philippine culture and history.
