Pingyao Ancient City: Discover China's Wall Street!

One of the must-visit attractions in Jinzhong is Pingyao Ancient City, which has a history spanning 2,800 years since its establishment during the Western Zhou Dynasty. Although many parts were restored during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it remains one of the best-preserved and most complete ancient cities in China. There's even a section of red clay walls dating back to the Zhou Dynasty that has astonishingly resisted weathering over the centuries. Visitors can't help but touch it—it’s truly fascinating! 👍

The view from the city walls is stunning, especially on clear days when photos turn out beautifully. While some criticize the city for being overly commercialized, Pingyao has been a bustling commercial hub for over a thousand years, so this characteristic is deeply rooted in its history.

Within the ancient city, you'll find China's first-ever bank (known as a 'piaohao') and a museum dedicated to escort agencies. For a significant period, this small ancient city was home to the wealthiest financiers in China, earning it the nickname of 'China's Wall Street' in ancient times. Naturally, I had to pay homage to this historic site! ❤️
