Before leaving for Pulau Mantanani in Sabah, I saw the following description: "One of the best snorkeling paradises in Sabah" and "gradient Tiffany blue".

Mermaid Island is an outlying island far away from Kota Kinabalu, and the one-day sea tour itinerary is very tight. You must depart from the Kota Kinabalu hotel at 7 am, start the boat trip at 10 am, return at 2 or 3 pm, and arrive back in Kota Kinabalu city at 6 or 7 pm. The approximate stay time on the island is about 3 hours.

The weather was not very good on the day I went there, so I didn’t see the legendary gradient blue, but I could still feel the clarity of the sea water and the softness of the beach. Probably more suitable for diving than snorkeling as the water is a bit deep offshore.
