Recommended hiking destination in Japan's Chubu region - Kamikochi.

If you have the chance to visit Nagano Prefecture, taking a trip to Kamikochi is a great option. However, be mindful of transportation as private vehicles are not allowed in the area. You can either join a tour group or take a bus, but make sure to plan your schedule carefully to avoid being stranded. Joining a tour might be the most convenient choice. Walking from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge takes about an hour, and the trail is shaded by trees, making it a pleasant hike even in summer. Visiting in autumn or winter offers a completely different scenic experience. Besides this route, there are more advanced trails available. Many Japanese visitors choose to stay overnight here to enjoy the tranquility. Kappa Bridge and the surrounding shops are quite popular, especially the apple pie. Be sure to leave some time to enjoy the refreshing stream water!
