📍Dogo Onsen Main Building
5-6 Dogoyunomachi, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan
The Dogo Onsen Main Building in Matsuyama is the oldest hot spring structure in Japan, completed in 1894. This three-story wooden building is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and is famously known as the inspiration for the bathhouse in the movie "Spirited Away."
From the entrance, you can feel the tradition and history, with the heron statue on the roof being a notable feature. The hot spring usage fees are as follows: 1st floor "Kami-no-Yu" bath only - 700 yen for adults (60 minutes), 2nd floor seating course with yukata, tea, and traditional sweets - 1,300 yen, and 3rd floor family bath (private room) - 2,500 yen (90 minutes). (Discounts are available for children aged 2 to 11 for all courses.)
The interior of the onsen is clean and traditionally Japanese. Outside the main building, there is the "Tama-no-Ishi" wishing stone. It is highly recommended to experience the classic atmosphere of the Dogo Onsen Main Building and appreciate its architectural beauty, which embodies 3,000 years of history.
