🌟 Unexpectedly Charming Small City with Unique Features

#discoverchina
This little city has more titles than you can count: World Hakka City, Hometown of Marshal Ye Jianying, National Historical and Cultural City, China's Most Beautiful Ecological Leisure Tourism City, Hometown of Hakka Cuisine, International Slow City, World Longevity Town, and Famous Hometown of Overseas Chinese. Long ago, it was called “Jiayingzhou.”

Despite all these grand titles, many people, even from Guangdong, have never heard of it. Yet, it’s a place with huge significance. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, it has been the main starting point for Hakka people’s migration. In the late 18th to 19th centuries, a large number of Hakka people set off from here to "Southeast Asia" to make a living. Now, over 3.6 million overseas Chinese from here live across more than 70 countries and regions.

It’s a city that feels small, almost unknown to many locals in Guangdong. But it’s also huge in cultural history, being the origin of so many Hakka families that spread across the globe. The city was once poor, as most of its wealthy people were abroad. But today, its landscapes are magnificent — misty mountains and vibrant greenery paint a picture of “Green Mountains and Clear Waters” that translate into prosperity.
