The Yuanling Mausoleum, the mausoleum of Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Yu, is located in Tanshan, 15 kilometers northwest of Fuping County, Shaanxi Province. Built on a hillside, the mausoleum area encompasses 20 kilometers. The stone carvings at the Yuanling Mausoleum are identical to those at the Jianling Mausoleum. Only fragments of the stone lions outside the east, west, and north gates, and the stone horses outside the north gate, remain. The stone lions are of the same shape and size as those at the Tailing Mausoleum. Five stone horses stand outside the north gate, all of which are incomplete. The east and west rows of guard horses are 30 meters apart. The first guard horse in the west row, from the south, is 27 meters north of the que site, the second is 23.5 meters north of the first, and the third is 24.5 meters north of the second. The first guard horse in the east row, from the south, is 65 meters north of the que site, and the second is 12 meters north of the first.
Tang Daizong Li Yu, the eldest son of Tang Suzong, was crowned emperor by eunuchs and reigned for 18 years. He later died of illness and was buried in Yuanling. The Old Book of Tang, Biography of Linghu Yan, records: "After Emperor Dezong ascended the throne, he issued an edict establishing the Daizong Yuanling mausoleum system, demanding that it be extremely generous and that all funds be used to bury the deceased. This was opposed by Ling Guyuan, but Emperor Dezong acceded to his decree, forcing a frugal burial." This suggests that the Yuanling mausoleum system was significantly inferior to that of the previous emperor.

Night visits and light shows are not available at Tang Yuanling. The attraction is best enjoyed during daylight hours for the best views of the natural scenery.
