If you visit Malaysia's ancient capital, Malacca, be sure to stop by the Melaka Straits Mosque (Masjid Selat Melaka), a mystical mosque that appears to float on the water!
Completed in 2006, this relatively new mosque is built on the waters off Malacca Island. Because it appears to float on the water at high tide, it's also known as the "Floating Mosque." Its mystical scenery captivates visitors.
What makes the Melaka Straits Mosque so appealing?
* The mystical appearance of the "Floating Mosque" ✨
Its greatest attraction is its unique structure, which appears to float on the water at high tide. Its beauty is particularly striking at dusk, when the sky turns crimson and the mosque is lit up, creating a romantic and breathtaking sight. The mosque's reflection on the water makes for a truly photogenic sight. 📸
* Beautiful Architecture Blending Eastern and Western Cultures
The mosque's architecture combines a Middle Eastern-style semicircular dome with four corner turrets with symmetrical roofs influenced by Chinese elements, expressing the unique characteristics of the multicultural city of Malacca. The interior, too, is captivating, with the once-white exterior walls now painted pink and the frames and fences painted brown. Beautiful light filters in through the large stained-glass arched windows, creating a mystical atmosphere inside.
* Location Overlooking the Straits of Malacca
The mosque is surrounded by a deck area where you can enjoy the ocean views, offering magnificent views of the Straits of Malacca stretching out before you. You can also see tankers passing through the Straits of Malacca, one of the world's major trade routes.
* Free Admission (Dress Code Applies)
Non-Muslims are welcome to visit, and admission is free. However, as it is a Muslim place of worship, both men and women are required to wear modest clothing. Women can borrow headscarves (hijabs) and robes free of charge, so no need to worry. While it's a little far from the center of Melaka, you can easily access it by taxi or Grab. It's especially recommended to visit at sunset. Experience a truly unforgettable experience at the Melaka Straits Mosque!
