If you’re in Melbourne, a day spent between the Shrine of Remembrance and the Royal Botanic Gardens is truly rewarding.
🕊 Shrine of Remembrance
Standing tall on St Kilda Road, the Shrine is one of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks. Built to honor those who served in wars, its solemn architecture is both humbling and majestic. I climbed up to the balcony for sweeping views of the Melbourne skyline — breathtaking at sunset. Inside, the Sanctuary and the Eternal Flame create a powerful, reflective atmosphere. I was lucky enough to witness the flag-lowering ceremony, which gave me chills.

Just a short stroll from the Shrine, the gardens felt like stepping into another world. Sprawling lawns, tranquil lakes, and themed plant collections make it perfect for both a slow wander and a quiet picnic. I loved sitting by Ornamental Lake, watching black swans glide across the water. The Guilfoyle’s Volcano lookout was another highlight, offering unique landscaping and a great vantage point.
💡 Tip from Experience: Start late afternoon at the Shrine, then wander into the gardens for a peaceful evening walk. It’s a perfect mix of history, culture, and nature — and all within walking distance of Melbourne’s CBD.
