This is one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Awaji Island. It enshrines Hotei, the god of character development and wealth. He is affectionately known as Hotei-san, but he is said to be the only deity modeled after a real-life monk. Behind Gokokuji Temple is a garden designated as a Hyogo Prefecture Historic Site, Place of Scenic Beauty, and Natural Monument. It is a magnificent and beautiful garden. Be sure to take a stroll through it. It's a recommended tourist spot.
