Awaji Island's oldest Hachiman Shrine

Founded in 859 and established in 1199 by Shimada Totomi no Kami Sakonnoshin, this historic shrine is said to have been dedicated to Hachiman Daigongen, a war god. It is said to grant blessings for traffic safety, health, and the fulfillment of wishes. Incidentally, next to Ueda Hachiman Shrine is Kakujuji Temple, which enshrines Bishamonten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Awaji Island.
