Watching the sunrise over Mount Bromo is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We woke up at 3 AM to take a jeep up to the viewpoint, and seeing the sun rise over the mist-covered caldera was absolutely surreal. The landscape is like something from another planet—volcanic ash fields, a smoking crater, and distant peaks. After sunrise, we hiked to the crater rim, where you can look down into the active volcano. It's both eerie and exhilarating.
