Climbing Taishan...

Tai Mountain is located just outside the City of Tai'an, a short train ride from the capital of Shandong, Ji'nan. The best way to get here is actually by train and then take a taxi to the entrance, as it's not far from both of the train stations in Tai'an. You can also get here by private car and also local bus. On arrival, you need to purchase tickets and make your way to the bus to take you to the montain base. Here, you have two choices-climbing or cable car. The stairs are very steep and there are many, probably taking 3+ hours to climb up....therefore I recommend taking the cable car to the summit and walking down. Walking down still takes 1.5 hours! At the summit, you will find a few beautiful temples and observation areas to take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountain range. Various amenities can be found all over the walking trails-toilets, snack and souvenir stalls. The best time to visit is Spring or early Summer, as the evening is brighter, it's warmer and visibility is good. During late summer, it can rain, so be sure to check the weather. If in Ji'nan, I would definitely recommend this for a full day trip.
