My Iceland Memories|A Journey Between Wind and Light

Iceland · A Date with the Northern Lights

That night, I stood by the seaside of the small town Þorlákshöfn, the wind blowing from the North Atlantic, cold as a knife yet carrying an addictive clarity. At the darkest moment of the night, the sky suddenly lit up—green and purple lights danced among the clouds. At that moment, I knew this would be a memory I would never forget in my life.

❄️ Iceland, a "surreal" experience

Iceland is not a place you can understand just by "taking a quick trip."
It is a rhythm, a state of coexistence between nature and humans.
Volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, auroras—none of these are mere "attractions," but traces of the Earth breathing.

I stayed here for more than ten days, traveling from the south coast to the east, then to Akureyri in the north, witnessing ever-changing weather.
Sunny during the day, then snow and wind the next moment; taking photos by waterfalls in the morning, soaking in the Blue Lagoon in the evening watching the steam rise.

Iceland’s weather is like a moody poet—you never know what the next line will be, but it’s always moving.

🚐 N66 Private Car Rental: On the road is the real Iceland

If Iceland is an adventure, then N66 private car rental is the way to make that adventure safer and freer.

Driving in Iceland is not just "driving for sightseeing"—it’s crossing a living Earth.
But if you’re unfamiliar with the roads, not used to left-hand driving, or worried about sudden weather changes, snow, and ice, N66’s private car service is definitely the ideal choice.

Our drivers are locals, familiar with every ring road and every hidden photo spot.
From Reykjavík to the south coast’s black sand beach (Reynisfjara), Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Diamond Beach;
then to Mývatn and Goðafoss waterfall, the scenery along the way is picturesque.

The car is warm and comfortable, you can stop anytime to enjoy the view, no rush, no worries about luggage space.
N66 offers 9-seat Volkswagen Transporter T7 luxury vehicles, spacious seats, USB charging ports, free Wi-Fi, and full Chinese coordination service.

What touched me most was—the driver is not just a "driver," but more like a guide and friend on the journey.
He tells you which glaciers are best for photos, where to see seals, and even takes us to a hot spring pool only locals know about for soaking our feet.

🌌 The night of the Northern Lights: At that moment, the world was silent

That night, we left Hella and drove along the south coast toward Ölfus. The clouds slowly cleared, and stars began to twinkle. The driver said, "Tonight’s KP index is good, maybe we have a chance."

At 8:30 p.m., we stopped on an open plain.
The wind was strong, the temperature minus five degrees Celsius.
Just when I was about to give up, a green light streaked across the distant horizon—
At first, just a faint line, then growing brighter, as if someone poured flowing dark green ink across the sky.

Everyone fell silent.
At that moment, no one spoke, only the sound of the wind and camera shutters.
The aurora was like a dream, jumping from the horizon to the zenith, then slowly fading away.

That night, we saw three aurora bursts.
The driver smiled and said, "This is a lucky night."
Yes, Iceland’s aurora is not something you "find," but something she "chooses to appear."

🏡 A night under the Northern Lights: Hotel Vos

For accommodation on the south coast, I chose Hotel Vos.
This is a self-operated hotel under BP Holiday in South Iceland, located far from city light pollution, an excellent spot for aurora viewing.

The rooms are simple and cozy, with endless grasslands outside the window.
The most special thing is—the hotel offers Chinese group meals! 🍲
Eating a bowl of hot soup and a stir-fry dish in the icy snow feels truly blissful.
(And this is one of the few places outside Reykjavík where you can eat authentic Chinese food!)

After soaking in the hot spring at night, sitting on an outdoor lounge chair in a thick coat, looking up at the stars and aurora—
This is probably a moment worth living for.

📸 My impressions of Iceland

🗻 Golden Circle
The awe of watching the geyser erupt.

🌊 Skógafoss & Seljalandsfoss
Two waterfalls, each unique—one majestic, the other you can walk behind.

🐋 Húsavík
Boat trips chasing whale sightings.

🌋 Jökulsárlón
The low moan of glacier calving, unreal blue ice floating on the lake.

🌌 Hella / Ölfus
One of the best areas for aurora viewing, stable weather, far from lights.

Every place feels like a movie set.
In Iceland, you keep thinking—"This can’t be real."

🧭 Conclusion: My Iceland memories

If you ask me what is the most beautiful thing in Iceland?
I would say, it’s not the aurora, nor the glaciers, but the feeling of "perfect balance between humans and nature."

Iceland taught me to slow down, to see, to listen, to breathe.
The vastness of that land will make you redefine the word "travel."

Maybe this is the most unforgettable memory of my life.
When I recall that night of wind and light, I still smile.
