Wakayama: Nachi Falls

I visited Nachi Falls in Wakayama! Nestled in the lush greenery of Mount Nachi, this famous waterfall boasts a height of 133 meters, making it the tallest single-drop waterfall in Japan. With an impressive flow of about 1 ton of water per second, the sight of the cascading water is truly breathtaking! As I passed through the torii gate and descended the stone steps, the mist and breeze brushed against my face, and I was overwhelmed by the sheer power of the falls amidst the serene atmosphere.

The waterfall is considered the sacred object of worship at the Hiro Shrine, part of Kumano Nachi Taisha, and holds deep spiritual significance. From the observation deck, the sound of the water and the stunning panoramic view left a lasting impression, and I could truly feel the purity of the water, which is renowned for its longevity and life-enhancing properties.

Additionally, the view of the three-story pagoda of Seiganto-ji Temple alongside the waterfall is like a scene from a painting. With cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn leaves, the scenery transforms with the seasons, offering new and unforgettable experiences with each visit.

Access is convenient, with a bus ride and a 5-minute walk from Kii-Katsuura Station. Visiting early in the morning enhances the solemn and majestic atmosphere. This was a highlight of my Wakayama trip, where I could immerse myself in the natural beauty and historical significance of Mount Nachi. Truly a remarkable experience! 😊
