Kumano Nachi Taisha, one of the Kumano Sanzan shrines, is a place of nature worship, with Nachi Falls as its sacred object of worship. A symbol of Kumano faith, this place has been revered since ancient times as the "sacred mountain of the waterfall," where the gods descended.
Located atop a mountain approximately 400 meters above sea level, the vermilion shrine buildings stand out against the blue sky and green mountains, creating a truly spectacular sight. The main deity is Kumano Fusumi no Okami, the goddess who governs the regeneration and prosperity of life. Nearby is Seiganto-ji Temple, where the scenery exudes a sense of syncretism between Shinto and Buddhism.
And the symbol of this area is Nachi Falls. Known as Japan's most famous waterfall with a drop of 133 meters, the sound of its waters sounds like the breath of the gods. A visit to Hiro Shrine, where the waterfall itself is the sacred object, will allow you to experience the origins of Kumano faith.
