[Togakushi, Nagano] A journey through the cedar trees into sacred grounds: A journey to reconcile your soul at Togakushi Shrine Okusha 🌲✨
Togakushi Shrine Okusha, located in Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, is a mystical shrine nestled at the foot of the Togakushi mountain range. Believed to have been founded before Christ, it enshrines Ameno Tajikarao no Mikoto, the god who opened the rock cave in the legend of Ama-no-Iwato. Located at the innermost of the five Togakushi shrines, it truly deserves to be called the "realm of the gods."
From the entrance to the approach, the cedar trees stretch for approximately 2km, lined with giant trees over 400 years old, and just walking along them is enough to cleanse the soul. At the midpoint, you'll find the Zuishinmon Gate, and from there, the sacredness of the path increases dramatically. The path to the Okusha is a somewhat steep slope, but the shrine building at the end is truly majestic. The dignified atmosphere permeates the silence, helping you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
