The Oura Church in Nagasaki City is one of the 12 sites related to the history of Christianity in Japan. The group of churches and Christian sites were recognized as a World Heritage Site in 2018.
This particular church is located in the southern part of Nagasaki City, while some of the other in the list are located in other parts of the Nagasaki Prefecture. To get to the Oura Church, it is possible to walk 15-20 min from city center. The area is in fact part of the Foreign Settlement area of Nagasaki in the 19th century. Therefore you can also visit Glover Garden and Chinese Confucius Shrine nearby.
The Church was built by French missionaries in 1864 and is the oldest church in Japan. It was also designated as a National treasure in 1933 by the Japanese Government.
Entrance fee is ¥1000 for adult and 400 for high school students which I thought was a little expensive. Aside the main church, you can also visit the Christian Museum next to it. It will take about 30 -45 minutes to visit the entire premise.
