The world's three major night views are held at the Night View Summit in Japan, which is hosted by Japan's "Night View Tourism Convention Bureau" and specializes in studying the impact of night views on the tourism industry. The organizer decides the results based on questionnaires and field surveys. The night view of Nagasaki has long been ranked first in Japan. On October 5, 2012, Nagasaki was selected as one of the new three major night views in the world along with Hong Kong and Monaco by the judges.
The city center of Nagasaki is surrounded by mountains on three sides, so many houses are built on the hillsides, forming many stepped or sloping streets. The layered feeling created by the hilly terrain makes the lights of thousands of houses appear very three-dimensional. Coupled with the lights of Nagasaki Port, the night view of Nagasaki City can be appreciated from multiple angles, making it a popular destination.
