"Oranda-zaka" in Higashiyamate-cho, Nagasaki City is a stone-paved slope that remains in an area that was once a foreign settlement.
It is said that this name was given because foreigners, including the Dutch who lived in Dejima, passed through the area during the Edo period🇳🇱
The area is dotted with Western-style buildings and churches, making it feel like you've wandered into a European street corner✨
I visited in the afternoon and visited Higashiyamate Ko Jusanban-kan to see what life was like in the Meiji period.
I took a break at a cafe and enjoyed the scenery of the slope☕
The trick to conquering it is to "wear comfortable shoes and explore the Higashiyamate area together" + "take advantage of the free facilities to dig deep into the history"👟
There are many photogenic spots, making it perfect for a photo walk📸
To access, take the tram from Nagasaki Station to "Medical Center" and walk for about 4 minutes🚋
It is also within walking distance of Shinchi Chinatown, so it is easy to incorporate into your walking route.
Whether you're traveling as a couple or solo, this slope is where exoticism and history intersect.
Please come on a trip to experience Nagasaki's "quiet, different culture" 🌿
