You can buy freshly made soft kankoro mochi at Kameya Manju

Kankoro mochi (amakoro mochi), a Nagasaki specialty (and a Goto specialty).

You'll often see it sold in vacuum-sealed pouches as a souvenir.
Of course, this is done with shelf life in mind,
but it's a bit disappointing that the mochi is a bit hard.

Kameya Manju in Tsukimachi Shopping Arcade is the place to buy freshly pounded, soft kankoro mochi.

While cutting kankoro mochi and browning it in the toaster or frying it in butter in a frying pan is a quick and delicious way to eat it,
you can also cut soft, freshly made kankoro mochi into bite-sized pieces and eat it as is, for a chewy and delicious mochi.

Boiled and dried sweet potato (kankoro) is kneaded into the mochi, making it a sweet treat!
