Nagoya, often known for its modern cityscape and hearty food, also has a quieter, more historic side—perfect for a relaxing walk through time.
I started at Nagoya Castle, where the majestic architecture and the stunning Honmaru Goten Palace interiors gave a glimpse into the elegance of the Edo period. The surrounding gardens were peaceful, with plum and cherry trees depending on the season.
Later, I visited Atsuta Shrine, one of Japan’s most important Shinto sites. It’s surrounded by lush greenery and offers a calm, spiritual break from the city buzz.
Why I recommend Nagoya for a slow stroll:
・You can explore grand historical landmarks without the overwhelming crowds
・It’s easy to find pockets of nature and tradition in the middle of the city
