The sacred place of Nakhon Ratchasima people

Ya Mo of Korat people, Thao Suranaree’s original name was Khunying Mo. She was the wife of the mayor of Nakhon Ratchasima. In 1826, Prince Anouvong of Vientiane led an army to capture Korat. Khunying Mo rallied the villagers to fight and successfully resisted Prince Anouvong’s army, preventing them from invading Bangkok. King Nangklao therefore graciously bestowed the title of "Thao Suranaree." Because Ya Mo became a symbol of the people of Korat, it is the origin of another name for Nakhon Ratchasima, "Ya Mo City." Every year from March 23 to April 3, there is a celebration of Thao Suranaree’s victory in front of the provincial hall. Tourists are welcome to attend this grand event.
