If you're traveling to northern Okinawa, Kouri Bridge is an absolute must-visit. Spanning approximately 2 kilometers, this bridge connects the main island to Kouri Island. As you drive across, the sea on both sides is an unbelievable shade of blue. From emerald green to deep cobalt blue and transparent turquoise, the colors shift and shimmer, creating a truly magical sight. It's like driving on a path in the sky!
On sunny days, many people stop midway on the bridge to take in the view. It feels as if you're floating above the sea, and with a gentle breeze, you can feel the freedom of travel throughout your body. Once you reach Kouri Island, there's a small observation deck right in front of you. The view of the bridge from there is stunning, as it gracefully curves over the sea, blending perfectly with the natural surroundings.
It's also worth stopping by the nearby beach to dip your feet in the water. The water is clear and shallow, making it a popular spot for families. There are also cafes and photo spots well set up. The serene atmosphere of Kouri Island combined with the tranquil sea views makes you feel as if all the noise of the city has completely disappeared.
However, keep in mind that parking can be a bit challenging in the afternoon due to the number of tourists, so visiting in the morning or around sunset is recommended. Especially during sunset, the bridge glows with a golden hue, creating an unforgettable scene. If you want to take in the refreshing sea of Okinawa in one glance, be sure to drive across Kouri Bridge!
