A Student-Friendly Hotel That's Truly Exceptional

Nanjing InterContinental Hotel Experience: Captivating Views, Room for Improvement in Service and Facilities

As a college student, I recently spent a weekend at the Nanjing InterContinental Hotel. The experience had both pleasant surprises and areas needing improvement.

💗Other tips: Check-in Communication and Service Details

Before check-in, I called the hotel before 11:00 hoping to check in early for freshening up. Initially, communication was difficult, but we agreed on 1:00. However, when I arrived at 1:10, I was told to wait longer unless I paid extra to upgrade my room. After check-in, the room was too hot, and the front desk didn't answer my calls. I finally reached them through Trip.com's APP using their official number. The front desk explained they only had heating, no cooling, and offered a fan - quite unacceptable for Nanjing's 28-degree weather. However, the manager handled the issue promptly and professionally, upgrading our room without the extra charge and offering complimentary minibar access. On the first day, we returned to find the entrance bathroom uncleaned with paper clogging the toilet; on the second day, we found urine in the toilet. The manager addressed these issues after we reported them. On a positive note, pre-stay communication with Guest Relations Officer Ada was smooth and thoughtful from coordination to check-in.

🏘️Room Type/Layout: Unique Views, Varied Spaces

My open-plan suite, though advertised as 96 square meters, felt cramped and didn't meet expectations. However, my friend's upgraded Executive Lake View Suite offered exceptional views of the lake, unlike the Ritz-Carlton's lake view rooms. The foggy, poorly maintained exterior windows somewhat diminished the view. The Executive Lake View Suite had an open-plan layout with spacious, well-designed areas, while the standard open-plan suite felt confined.

🛌Amenities/Facilities: Dated Facilities, Varied Amenities

While the hotel's facilities show their age, the suites are well-maintained. The lack of air conditioning significantly impacted the stay. The Executive Lake View Suite featured a Dyson hair dryer and Baisuishan mineral water, while the open-plan suite had an old Panasonic hair dryer and Binglu mineral water - a notable difference between suite types. The old-style elevators offer good privacy and pleasant fragrance.

🧹Soundproofing/Cleanliness: Good Sound Isolation, Some Cleanliness Issues

Sound isolation is excellent - minimal noise from outside or neighboring rooms. However, cleanliness issues emerged, particularly with the entrance bathroom's incomplete cleaning.

Despite these issues at the Nanjing InterContinental Hotel, the lake views and the manager's problem-solving approach left a lasting impression. With improvements in service efficiency, facility maintenance, and cleanliness management, the hotel could offer an even better experience. I would consider staying in their lake view suite again in the future.
