A trip to Nanjing isn’t complete without visiting the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum (中山陵) — a site steeped in history and surrounded by nature’s quiet grandeur.
🌳 The journey starts at Bo’ai Arch (博爱坊) and continues along a tranquil tree-lined avenue (中山陵墓道), leading to the base of the 392 symbolic granite steps. The climb is part of the experience — with each step, you move closer to the heart of modern Chinese history.
At the summit lies the solemn and majestic mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, blending traditional Chinese design with modern architectural touches.
🎟️ Entry to the mausoleum is free, but if you’re exploring further, consider the Zhongshan Mountain Scenic Area combo ticket, which includes:
🏯 Meiling Palace (美龄宫) – A romantic villa once home to Soong Mei-ling, surrounded by ginkgo trees.
⛰️ Linggu Temple (灵谷寺) and the towering Linggu Pagoda (灵谷塔) – Climb to the top for a panoramic view over Purple Mountain. It’s another workout but totally worth it for the sweeping forest and skyline views!
🪦 Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum (明孝陵) – The resting place of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, with its iconic Sacred Path lined with stone animals.
🎶 Music Stage (音乐台) – A quieter corner of the park, designed for open-air concerts.
📍Practical Tips:
• Wear good walking shoes — you’ll be climbing and walking a lot
• Bring water and snacks, or prepare to pay more at nearby vendors
• Linggu Pagoda (灵谷塔) has steep stairs, so go slow, especially after the main mausoleum climb
• Arrive early to explore multiple sites in one day
Whether you’re here for the history, the architecture, or just the greenery — Zhongshan Scenic Area has more than meets the eye.
