Nanjing / Nanjing City Wall Museum

I think the Nanjing City Wall Museum is an underrated museum. The entire visit was incredibly pleasant, and I learned a lot!

The museum's research on the slabs unearthed from the Ming Palace and various capital city ruins in Nanjing allows visitors to understand how ancient people built their capitals, the significance of each structure, how bricks were transported, and where the bricks were produced.

What I found most special was the ability to study the development and origins of different surnames using the city wall. The bricks are inscribed with the names of the builders, demonstrating a system of responsibility. Furthermore, we can deduce the surname situation during the Ming Dynasty from the craftsmen's names, making it an important historical source for the study of surnames!

I really enjoyed the museum. After visiting, you can conveniently dine in the Laomendong area! The museum also has an entire exhibition hall displaying the surname bricks—it's truly spectacular!
